6TH UCLG CONGRESS WILL GATHER IN DURBAN

From 11 to 15 November 2019, the city of Durban, South Africa, will host the UCLG Congress, organized every three years to renew the Presidency of the UCLG World Organization. The UCLG Congress, which will be holding its 6th edition this year, will elect the Presidency for the 2019-2022 period and will discuss the global agendas of the cities with the participation of local and regional government leaders from all around the world.

This year’s edition will take place with a renewed format and enhanced collaboration between members and partners. In this regard, UCLG Congress will include interactive and innovative formats embodied in the form of four main tracks.

  • The Assembly Track, with local and regional government representatives as key drivers, aims at allowing continental, sectoral and thematic priorities to contribute to the global policies of the World Organization. UCLG sections, as well as sister organizations, are invited to develop position papers to be presented during the Assembly sittings.
  • The Town Hall Track, with civil society partners as key drivers, will be the space for dialogue and interaction between different internationally organized communities, civil society and the political leadership of the local and regional governments constituency, in order to define our global policies in an open format.
  • The Local4Action Track will be the space providing innovative formats for all the spheres of the network, allowing partners to participate in a cooperative process to share, listen and review.
  • The Statutory Track, which is reserved for UCLG members only, comprises the meetings of the governing bodies that shape the policies and work plan of the World Organization. This includes the Financial Management Committee, the Committee on Statutory Affairs, the Executive Bureau, the General Assembly, and the World Council.

You can visit the Summit website to register for the Congress, which is expected to host more than 3,500 local and regional government leaders worldwide: https://www.durban2019.uclg.org/en/

Furthermore, an Extraordinary Meeting of the UCLG Committee on Statutory Affairs will be held in order to discuss the candidacies for the UCLG Presidency and to evaluate the final preparations for the Congress.
