UCLG-MEWA: MOST SUCCESSFUL LOCAL GOVERNMENT NETWORK OF THE YEAR

''Local Government Project Awards of the Year'' annually organized by Belhaber.com that is also known as Municipal Oscar Awards, were given to its winners on 29 December 2015 in Taksim CVK Hotel, Istanbul. Mevlana Demirel, General Coordinator of Belhaber, Bekir Kaplan, General Manager of Media Inc., Mehmet Duman, UCLG-MEWA Secretary General, Murat Özdemir, President of Architects and Engineers Group, and the representatives of municipalities that were the winners of the awards, participated in the ''9th Municipal Oscar Awards'' ceremony along with the other guests.

Moreover, apart from municipalities, projects of departments of some municipalities were also granted awards. In this concept, Bağcılar Municipality, Beyoğlu Municipality, Büyükçekmece Municipality, Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Directorate of Libraries and Museums, İETT (Istanbul Electric Tramway and Tunnel Establishments), Istanbul Tree and Landscape Corporation, and Pendik Municipality were all granted 25 project awards in total. The plaques of the projects awarded within the context of public opinion polls and survey studies were given to the representatives of municipalities.

In this regard, UCLG-MEWA was granted the Most Successful Local Government Network Award. Mehmet Duman, UCLG-MEWA Secretary General who participated in the ceremony to receive the award, stated in his interview that “The award that we received will add a new excitement to our works. We will not only work intensely in Turkey but also in 20 region countries. Our activities will continue in a new speed.”

Iznik Municipality was among the award-worthy municipalities. Mehmet Duman, UCLG-MEWA Secretary General, presented the award of İznik Municipality to Osman Sargın, Mayor of İznik.
