As is known, the Palestinian people have long been suffering from illegal occupation, institutionalized discrimination, and the threat of annexation of their lands through illegal settlements in Palestinian territories. Furthermore, they are subject to oppressive and violent acts, mobility restrictions as well as other discriminatory policies. The occupying power continues to place pressure on the Palestinian people particularly in East Jerusalem where the demolition processes of Palestinian houses and illegal constructions are still ongoing.
As UCLG-MEWA, we have always advocated for the rights of the Palestinian people to their cities. We make sure to raise this issue in the international arena and raise awareness of city leaders from across the world on the ongoing suffering of the Palestinian people with a view to creating a sense of solidarity among our members. In this regard, we would like to share with you a briefing note prepared by the High Committee of Jerusalem that sheds light on the ongoing house demolitions and forced displacement in the occupied city of Jerusalem. This note also includes recommendations addressed to you, local governments, by the High Committee of Jerusalem on how to stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people and their cause.
Kindly find attached below the briefing note. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you need any further information or details.
