Environment and Migration Workshops organized by Büyükçekmece Municipality within the scope of “2050 Büyükçekmece Vision” were held on 18 March 2022.
UCLG-MEWA also participated in two of the round table discussions of the workshop series, titled Immigration and Environment. The workshops were held with the aim of bringing together different segments of the society and contributing to the preparations of Büyükçekmece’s 2050 vision.
At the Immigration Workshop, where immigration management in Büyükçekmece and the steps to be taken on immigrant issue in the long term were discussed, the importance of overcoming immigration-related problems, producing projects by making use of EU funding resources and cooperating with NGOs with field experience was emphasized. At the end of the session, it was concluded that resolving the issues of cohesion, participation and livelihood, whether the immigrants reside in the neighborhood temporarily or permanently, would benefit both the host and immigrant communities.
At the Environment Workshop held following the Immigration Workshop, the climate change, ecology and environment policies of Büyükçekmece Municipality were discussed. The workshop, which started with an informative presentation on climate change and the ecological concepts to be used, continued with round table meetings. At the end of the session, it was decided to prepare an evidence-based climate action plan, expand environmental education, develop alternative transportation methods, invest in urban agriculture, create projects based on waste management and alternative renewable energy sources.
