Call for Candidatures: 2017 UCLG World Council

The annual meeting of the UCLG World Council is a key gathering for the UCLG membership. Usually taking place between October and December, it is where local elected officials and the leadership of local government associations, as well as UCLG Committees and Working Groups, come together to exchange their experiences, and to examine and debate key issues concerning local democracy and decentralization.

The 2017 gathering will be the first meeting of the World Council following the World Summit of Local and Regional Leaders and 5th UCLG Congress, as well as the Habitat III Conference, and as such will also provide the opportunity to present progress in the implementation of the global agendas linked to these milestone events, as well as the SDGs.

You can find out more information about the World Council and what hosting the event entails in the document “Terms of Reference for the logistical organization of statutory meetings”, available via the link below.

The hosting of UCLG statutory meetings is a crucial contribution of UCLG members to the network, and provides remarkable international visibility. If you think your city, local or regional government, or local government association, is interested in this exciting opportunity and meets the requirements, we very much look forward to hearing from you.

All candidatures will be referred to the Committee on Statutory Affairs, who will make recommendations to the Executive Bureau for decision during their next meeting in Madrid in April 2017.

Candidatures must be submitted to the World Secretariat in writing before 31 March 2017.

For further information or to present a candidature, please write to the attention of the UCLG Secretary General at UCLGExBu@uclg.org.
