Candidatures for UCLG Presidency

Dear members,

Following the call for candidatures that ended on 30 June, the Committee on Statutory Affairs, charged with the supervision of the electoral process and the verification of the eligibility criteria, has requested the World Secretariat to announce that there are two candidates for the Presidency of UCLG:

Ilsur Metshin, Mayor of Kazan (Russian Federation)

Mpho Parks Tau, President of the South African Local Government Association and Councillor of Johannesburg (South Africa)

Enclosed you will find the biographies and manifestos of each candidate.

On behalf of the World Organization, the Committee on Statutory Affairs has expressed gratitude to both candidates for their commitment towards the World Organization and has commended the significant support gathered backing up their candidatures.
We would further like to inform you that the Committee on Statutory Affairs also revised and validated the three candidacies received for the Co-Presidency of UCLG:

Tahir Akyürek, Mayor of Konya Metropolitan Municipality (Turkey)

Wen Guohui, Mayor of Guangzhou (China)

Mauricio Rodas, Mayor of Quito (Ecuador)

We would like to recall that the period for presenting candidatures for the Co‑Presidency has been extended with the aim to ensure better gender as well as geographical balance. The call for candidatures is open until 7 October.
Finally, we also inform you that the Committee on Statutory Affairs revised and validated the two candidacies received for the Treasurer of UCLG:

Mohamed Sadiki, Mayor of Rabat (Morocco)

Berry Vrbanovic, Mayor of Kitchener (Canada)

The Presidency is elected by the World Council, which will meet in Bogotá on 15 October 2016.

Voting rights
Only members officially appointed to the World Council and up to date with their membership fees have the right to vote. Should the official member not be able to attend, his/her official substitute, duly appointed to the World Council, will have the right to vote.

There are no proxies and therefore, only members in the actual representation lists, adopted by the General Assembly, are able to vote.

The Committee on Statutory Affairs expressed its gratitude to all candidates. This important mobilization is a testament to the healthy political life of the organization, which will culminate in Bogotá with a renewed leadership that will drive UCLG into the SDGs and the New Urban Agenda era.

Members are encouraged to actively participate in Bogotá.
