Dr. Zoheir Sabaghpour, Deputy Mayor of International Affairs at Tehran Municipality, and his accompanying delegation paid a courtesy visit to UCLG-MEWA on 18 June 2021.
During the meeting held at the General Secretariat of UCLG-MEWA in Istanbul, the parties discussed ways to improve their bilateral relations and explored possible areas of cooperation.
UCLG-MEWA Secretary-General Mehmet Duman expressed his appreciation to receive a visit from the delegation of Tehran Municipality, which is one of UCLG-MEWA’s Co-Presidents and highlighted that it would be beneficial for local governments in Iran to be more active within UCLG-MEWA. Mehmet Duman also said that the MEWA Region will host two majors events of UCLG: the 4th UCLG Culture Summit to be held in Izmir, Turkey and the 2nd World Forum on Intermediary Cities to be held in Kütahya, Turkey. In addition to this, the delegation was updated on UCLG-MEWA’s activities in 2020 and the 2021 calendar of the organization.
