ENERGY EFFICIENCY AT BUILDINGS AND DESIGN PRINCIPLES


“Energy Efficiency at Buildings and Design Principles” was discussed at UCLG-MEWA, within the scope of UCLG-MEWA Local Government Talks. Hosting Prof. Dr. Ümit Doğay Arınç as a speaker, the program took place with an intensive participation from public and private sectors.

Within the scope of UCLG-MEWA Local Government Talks held at its General Secretariat in Sultanahmet, Istanbul; Prof. Dr. Ümit Doğay Arınç, Head of Executive Board of Istanbul Applied Gas and Energy Technologies Research Engineering Industry and Trade Co. Inc. (UGETAM), Founding Rector of Celal Bayar University and Adviser to Rector of Fatih Sultan Mehmet University, was the guest of UCLG-MEWA, for the program held on 8 May 2018.

In his Talk, Prof. Arınç highlighted that energy consumption of the buildings can be reduced, if they are designed with thermal insulation, and he further talked about the ratio of ideal area of windows over the front area and the importance of this ratio on energy efficiency.

Based on the SDG7 on “Affordable and Clean Energy” and the SDG11 on “Sustainable City and Communities”; Prof. Arınç emphasized the possibilities of utilization of clean energy resources, decreasing of released carbon emissions and creating areas for sustainable cities through energy efficient buildings.

During his Talk, Prof. Arınç also gave an example for world’s leading model countries on energy efficiency, and explained the processes to be followed by Turkey to achieve the standards of these leading models. He also pointed to the requirements of raising public awareness, to create energy efficient buildings, to disseminate usage of energy efficient resources, and to develop proper regulation and enforcement mechanisms on this issue.

At the end of the program; Mehmet Duman, UCLG-MEWA Secretary General,
presented Prof. Arınç a plaque. Program was concluded after the souvenir photos taken with all participants.
