UCLG-MEWA is continuing its efforts for ensuring the localization of the SDGs that were adopted by the UN in 2015.
With the Pilot Project on Mapping the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Turkey, which is carried out with partnership and sponsorship of World Academy for Local Government and Democracy (WALD), UCLG-MEWA has taken a very significant step towards the localization of the Goals in the MEWA region.
The project aims to make sure that works of local governments have their rightful place in the Voluntary National Reports that periodically presented for the achievement of the goals, that global agendas are integrated into local policies.
Workshops that will be held in different regions of Turkey, will be constituting the most important pillars of the Project. Through these workshops, it is expected to match relevant SDGs with the works implemented by municipalities. Mezitli Municipality has become the first stop for the workshops. Speaking in the opening session of the workshop, Mehmet Duman, UCLG-MEWA Secretary-General, said: “We aim to contribute the vision of Turkey for being the model country that broadens inclusive sustainable development to local level until 2030. With these ideas in our minds, today, we are taking the first step forward towards UCLG-MEWA’s mission to put sustainable local development into practice, through this work.” The workshop, which started on July 31st, 2018, will continue tomorrow under the auspices of Mezitli Municipality.
