As part of the executive meetings of UCLG World Council, Mr. Mehmet Duman, Secretary General of UCLG-MEWA, participated in a session “High Level Policy Dialogues: Ecological Transition” on November 12, 2020.
In the session, Mr. Duman talked about the changing lifestyles, economics and the current urban production. He also noted that local and regional governments are in a position where they can significantly contribute to the sustainable resilience of our planet.
Mr. Duman emphasized the necessity for local governments to undertake disaster risk reduction work, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, by involving local knowledge and creating effective action plans based on local contexts. He also stressed the need for strong cooperation between local and national governments, community-based organizations and non-governmental organizations.
