International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women

#ŞiddETME!
(Don’t Commit Violence!)

In 1999, the United Nations General Assembly has marked 25 November as International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. This remarkable day has a great importance in terms of ensuring the localization of the 5th Goal of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Achieving Gender Equality and Empower All Women and Girls, adopted by the United Nations in September 2015.

As signatories of the protocol made for running awareness-raising campaigns on international important days; United Cities and Local Governments Middle East and West Asia Section (UCLG-MEWA), Association of City Councils of Turkey, and Platform of City Councils of Turkey kindly invite their members to participate in this campaign.

Within the context of the campaign, the hashtags to be used on social media platforms will be: #YerelinÇağı #SKH5 #Şiddetme #ŞiddetsizToplum #TacizsizToplum. The hashtags will be used on Twitter between 24 November 2016, 8 PM (TRT) and 25 November 2016, 8 PM (TRT).

The members of UCLG-MEWA, Association of City Councils of Turkey and Platform of City Councils of Turkey will be the main conductors of the campaign. Photographs and reports from the events are kindly requested to be shared with UCLG-MEWA via uclg-mewa@uclg-mewa.org and/or g.yanik@uclg-mewa.org, on 25 November 2016, at 11 AM (TRT).

Kind Regards,
UCLG-MEWA Secretariat General
