MAYORS PARTICIPATED IN UCLG-MEWA PANEL ON SUSTAINABLE CITIES POLICIES


Within the context of World Cities Congress Istanbul 2018, held under the auspices of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, UCLG-MEWA organized a Panel on Sustainable Cities Policies.

In the Panel moderated by Mehmet Duman, UCLG-MEWA Secretary General, Hasan Tahsin Usta, Mayor of Gaziosmanpaşa;  Cahit Altunay, Mayor of Sultangazi; M. Tevfik Göksu, Mayor of Esenler; Adly Yaish, Mayor of Nablus and Hazem Al Naimat, Deputy Mayor of Greater Amman Municipality & President of the UCLG-MEWA Committee on Smart Cities addressed to the participants.

As the first speaker of the Panel, Hasan Tahsin Usta, Mayor of Gaziosmanpaşa (in Istanbul), talked about Smart Municipality Practices on Urban Transformation, highlighting the importance of digital municipality practices with a specific reference to Gaziosmanpaşa Municipality. Following Mr. Usta, Cahit Altunay, Mayor of Sultangazi (in Istanbul), gave a speech on the online public services they offer and their activities for Digital Archive and Transformation, as Sultangazi Municipality.

Adly Yaish, Mayor of Nablus (in Palestine), mentioned the interactive map developed within Nablus Municipality web site, adding on that the map included icons for implemented, ongoing, and future projects, each of which had been classified with their location, components and size.

M. Tevfik Göksu, Mayor of Esenler (in Istanbul) noted that they gave great importance to all works and efforts for building a smart municipality, but their prior concern was always to create safer cities.

UCLG-MEWA Panel on Sustainable Cities Policies ended up after the presentation of Hazem Al Naimat, Deputy Mayor of Greater Amman Municipality & President of UCLG-MEWA Committee on Smart Cities.
