Mohamed Saadie, UCLG-MEWA Co-President, Made Contacts in Istanbul and Gebze


After the 3rd Meeting of UCLG-MEWA Committee on Environment, Mohamed Saadie, UCLG-MEWA Co-President & President of the Union of Dannieh Municipalities, made several official visits in Istanbul, firstly the headquarters of the Union of Turkish World Municipalities, where the agenda items were the twinning of municipalities, and ways to include more municipalities as members, in order to benefit from the growing network.

Union of Marmara Municipalities was the second stop where Co-President Saadie discussed with Secretary General Cemil Arslan, the common goals between Lebanese Municipalities and Union of Marmara Municipalities, to maintain continuous cooperation. Co-President Saadie further addressed an invitation to Secretary General Arslan, to attend the opening ceremony of the new hall in the building of the Union of Dannieh Municipalities in Lebanon, which will be named “Marmara,” after the Union of Marmara Municipalities.

Third stop of the visits was the Consulate General of Lebanon in Istanbul, where Co-President Saadie met with H.E. Mounir Anouti, the Consul General, and explained the policies, activities and objectives of UCLG-MEWA, and expressed his desire that the Consulate General of Lebanon would play and assisting and supporting role in terms of building a stronger cooperation between UCLG-MEWA and the Lebanese municipalities.

Last stop of Mr. Saadie was Gebze Municipality in Kocaeli, where Adnan Köşker, Mayor of Gebze & UCLG-MEWA Treasurer, welcomed Co-President Saadie, Mehmet Duman, UCLG-MEWA Secretary General, and the accompanying delegation. The two sides agreed to continue the path of fraternity and cooperation between the parties and to develop future programs for new encounters involving all municipalities in Turkey and Lebanon.
