Why Should I Become a Member?

Local governments must follow international developments in urbanism, make their voices heard in the global arena, develop partnerships that go beyond borders, and increase their capacity for an effective municipality.

In this direction, UCLG-MEWA:

  • Allows its members to establish partnerships, develop cooperation, organize joint events, or use sister city models with local governments and international organizations at the country level, the regional level, and worldwide.
  • Localizes global agendas such as the New Urban Agenda and Sustainable Development Goals and makes them available to municipalities.
  • Raises the voice of the local at the international level through the governing bodies of the UCLG World Organization and the United Nations platforms.
  • Supports the project-oriented development of local governments by following national and international project calls and delivering them to local governments, as a stakeholder with local governments in projects, and by supporting the project writing process.
  • Functions as an information resource and learning center for local governments with its periodicals and non-periodical publications, training, workshops, and panels.
  • Allows the municipalities to build capacity in related areas through its six thematic committees.
