Resilient Cities

By 2030, 70% of the world population will live in urban areas. As the exposure to disasters and risks especially in relation to climate change increase, cities are tasked with identifying and remediating their vulnerabilities. They should employ an integrated, climate risk-informed and holistic approach to development that will produce ecologically and socially resilient cities and communities.

Aware of this fact, UCLG-MEWA works to localize the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction to encourage the implementation of necessary measures at the local level, adopting a bottom-up approach. To this end, it has been in cooperation with UCLG Learning to develop trainings based on UCLG’s Resilience Modules to build technical capacities of the municipal staff of local governments in the MEWA region.
