The Accessible Tourism Guide for Cities will be published as the output of the MEWA Accessible Tourism Workshop hosted by the Kyrenia Municipality on 21-22 October 2021 in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
During the MEWA Workshop on Accessible Tourism, which brought together more than 100 local government representatives, academics, experts and civil society volunteers from six countries, participants discussed how cities can be made accessible to disabled travelers. The two-day workshop consisting of panel sessions, good practices, trainings and roundtables aimed to pave the way for an accessible tourism guide for cities.
In the light of the issues discussed at the workshop and its outcomes, the preparatory work for the “MEWA – Accessible Tourism Guide for Cities” has started. The Guide will be developed under the coordination of Prof. Zehra Altınay Gazi from Near East University with a large working team and advisory board. While the first chapter of the Guide will draw a theoretical framework, the second part will focus on practices. The guide is planned to be discussed and adopted at the UCLG-MEWA Congress to be held in Konya in May 2022.
