UCLG-MEWA delegation composed of Mr. Mehmet DUMAN, the UCLG-MEWA Secretary General, Mr. Salim KORKMAZ, the UCLG-MEWA Coordinator of International Relations Department and Ms. Randa AL SABBAGH, UCLG-MEWA Project Officer in Media and Public Relations Department, paid a visit to Mr. Hasan ÜNVER, Mayor of Nevşehir, Mr Ercan ERTAŞ, Mayor of Acıgöl, Mr. Ali KARAASLAN, Mayor of Uçhisar and Mr. Fahri YILDIZ, Mayor of Ürgüp, within the framework of the organization of the MEWA Regional Intermediary Cities Forum which will be held in Nevşehir, Turkey, on 21-22 September 2017.
Meeting in Nevşehir Municipality
The UCLG-MEWA delegation met with the Mayor and the municipal staff that will be involved in the preparation and organization of the event. The Mayor stated that Nevşehir Municipality and its staff are ready to cooperate with UCLG-MEWA in order to contribute to the development of Intermediary Cities at the regional and international level. An important number of participants are expected in this event.
Meetings in Acıgöl, Uçhisar and Ürgüp Municipalities
Mr. DUMAN gave some news about the recent activities of UCLG-MEWA and invited the Mayors to participate to the MEWA Regional Intermediary Cities Forum which will be held in Nevşehir on 21-22 September 2017.
The Mayor of Uçhisar started by presenting the projects of the Municipality. One of the projects is the establishment of a women council. Mr. KARAASLAN stated that Uçhisar is a very important center of tourism.
The Mayor of Ürgüp showed a big interest in the MEWA Regional Intermediary Cities Forum and proposed to actively contribute through the presentation of the municipal project on restoration in one of the sessions, and to arrange a visit to Ürgüp for the delegation, within the framework of the social program of the event. As Ürgüp is also an important touristic place, the Mayor was invited to be member in both Committees on Tourism and Culture.
All of the 4 visits proved to be quite effective in terms of mobilizing UCLG-MEWA members in the Cappadocia region, and to renew their commitment to contribute to the UCLG-MEWA activities.
