Sultanbeyli Municipality Istanbul organized a “Greenhouse Gas Reduction” workshop on April 27, 2023, at Digit al Transformation and Competence Development Center Sultanbeyli.
The workshop aimed to establish integrated planning and monitoring mechanisms with internal and external coordination to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The workshop witnessed participation from various experts, academics, municipality staff, and representatives from civil society and international organizations.
As a signatory of the Paris Agreement in 2016, Türkiye has committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions within the framework of “Common but Differentiated Responsibilities,” one of the basic principles of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. The workshop is part of the preparation process “National Climate Change Adaptation Strategy and Action Plan” (2011-2023). As the localization of climate action has become a necessity, At the metropolitan and district level, the activity of preparing an action plan has started to become widespread.
UCLG-MEWA engages in activities that address climate problems through its Committee on Environment. Yehia Ibrahim from the international relations department and Junaid Rafiq from the communications department represented UCLG-MEWA at the workshop and contributed to the substantial discussions on reducing the emission of greenhouse gases.
