TAIWAN TECH DAY 2023 ORGANIZED IN ISTANBUL


UCLG-MEWA Committee on Smart Cities and Urban Mobility participated in the Taiwan Tech Day 2023 held in Istanbul by the Taiwan Bureau of Foreign Trade and External Trade Development Council (TAITRA).

The event covered Smart Cities, Electronic Mobility, Smart hospitals, Ecosystems, and Sustainable Development Goals. Taiwan Economy and Culture Mission Ambassador Volkan Chih-Yang Huang emphasized the developing relations between Taiwan and Türkiye regarding the 6 February Earthquake.

UCLG-MEWA Secretary General was also invited to the event as a VIP guest but could not attend due to a program outside the city. Participants from the Turkish bureaucracy also took part in the event. DEİK Türkiye (Foreign Economic Relations Bureau) – Taiwan Business Council Türkiye President Necmettin Uzun emphasized the importance of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Uzun drew attention to the UN Meeting to be held this year on SDGs and stated that Türkiye successfully implemented and ranking of SDGs despite going through a challenging process. He also touched upon Automation, Big Data, and Digital Transformation in Smart Cities.

Furkan Karakaya from the Presidency of the Republic of Türkiye Investment Office talked about the 2020-2023 National Smart Cities Strategy and Action Plan after emphasizing that Türkiye’s technological and economic development are parallel to each other.

Within the scope of the event, various technology companies made presentations on the digital transformation of cities, security, and urban mobility.
