TRANSIST 2017 – UCLG-MEWA COMMITTEE ON URBAN MOBILITY MEETING & PANEL


TRANSIST 2017 International Istanbul Transport Congress & Exhibition was held on 2-4 November 2017, in Istanbul Congress Center. During the Congress, 4 panels were organized under the main title of “Change that Drives Future: Innovation, Integration, Information and Intelligence.” Along with the panels, world-renowned transportation authorities shared their experience on transportation sector at keynote sessions.

In addition to the main sessions, Smart Mobility Conference, 12 workshops, 2 personal development seminars were also organized within the scope of the congress aiming to bring different views to the problems of the mass transportation sector. More than 100 participant companies met with visitors on an area of 10.000 m2,, during the exhibition.  

Within the scope of TRANSIST 2017, the 5th Meeting of the UCLG-MEWA Committee on Urban Mobility & Panel on Eco-Friendly, Integrated and Safe Urban Mobility in the MEWA Region took place on 4 November 2017 with the partnership of UCLG-MEWA and IETT, the Committee President. The Meeting & Panel provided an important platform to review committee activities, to strengthen cooperation, to share good practices and to discuss new projects to be developed.

During the Panel on Eco-Friendly, Integrated and Safe Urban Mobility in the MEWA Region, participants from local governments and international organizations discussed the challenges in urban mobility in the cities of MEWA region and work on action plans to reach effective solutions. The Panel consisted of four sessions:

  • Problems Encountered in Achieving Sustainable and Eco-Friendly Urban Mobility in the MEWA Region and Solutions Offered

  • Opportunities and Challenges in Planning and Practices of Urban Mobility in the MEWA Region

  • Road Safety in the MEWA Region

  • Good Practices and Projects on Eco-Friendly, Integrated and Safe Transportation

After the Panel, the Committee Presidency and members gathered for the administrative works of the Committee: review of the report of activities, adoption of program of activities, review of memberships and call for the host city for the next meeting.

With the approval of new membership applications by Mersin Metropolitan Municipality, Rize Municipality, Tubas Municipality, Qalqiliya Municipality, Azki Municipality, Union of Zahleh Eastern Municipalities, Nemrine Municipality, Mrah Sraj Municipality, Bikaasafrine Municipality, Kfenshleim Municipality, Karsayta Municipality, and Ordu Metropolitan Municipality; the Committee membership has raised to 26.

The Presidency and members also unanimously decided to hold the 6th Meeting of the Committee in 2018 under the auspices of Şanlıurfa Metropolitan Municipality in Turkey.
