UCLG-MEWA at the 10th Energy Efficiency Forum and Exhibition

10th edition of the Energy Efficiency Forum and Exhibition, one of the most important energy efficiency events in Turkey, took place in Lütfi Kırdar International Convention and Exhibition Center, on 11-12 April 2019, under the auspices of Republic of Turkey Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources. The previous edition of the event was held in Istanbul on 29-30 March 2018, under the theme “National Energy Efficiency Action Plan – Move and Implement”. In this 10th edition of the Forum, the main theme was “Energy Efficiency as a Source – Hidden Treasure in Energy”.

In the event, participants shared energy efficiency related works throughout the world and Turkey, and presented the latest developments and future projections on energy. New and innovative products and technologies enabling efficient use of energy at any level from source to final consumption were introduced in the Forum. Speaking at the opening session of the program, Fatih Dönmez, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, noted that Turkey achieved almost 1 million tons of equivalent oil (TEP) energy saving by investing approximately 1.2 billion dollars in all sectors in 2017 and 2018. He further noted that the primary energy consumption will be reduced by 14 percent, and in greenhouse gas emissions, Turkey will achieve 66 million tonnes of carbon dioxide reduction by 2023.

Within the context of the event, a session on “Best Practices in Energy Efficiency” was held on the second day of the program. In the session moderated by Mehmet Duman, UCLG-MEWA Secretary General, practitioners from the private sector and public institutions introduced their good practices. Levent Yazıcı, Energy Manager of Bursa Provincial Directorate of National Education; Zaruhi Gharagyozyan, Head of Purchasing Group of Armenia Fund on Renewable Energy Resources and Energy Efficiency; Ahmet Seferoğlu, Chairman of Efektif Energy; Osman Kipoğlu, General Manager of Enervis; and Mustafa Serdar Tütek, Chairman of Serdar Plastic Inc, were among the panelists. In his opening speech, Secretary General Duman underscored the importance of Sustainable Development Goals in energy efficiency by emphasizing that innovation on energy sources and efficient use of resources also contribute to the efforts towards fighting against climate change.

In the session, panelists discussed “Energy Management Works of the Ministry of National Education”, “Good Practices on Energy Efficiency”, “Energy Efficiency Projects on Organized Industrial Zones, Industrial Facilities and Energy Cooperatives – Projects on Renewable Energy Production Facilities”, “Energy Efficient Examples in Industry”, and “Industry 4.0 Implementations and Model Factory.”

The event seeks to bring public institutions, private sector and civil society organizations together to create a platform for sharing experiences, presenting innovations, and creating new business networks.
