On the second anniversary of his passing, UCLG-MEWA commemorates its founding President, Arc. Dr. Kadir Topbaş. The former Mayor of Istanbul, who also served as President of UCLG World Organization from 2010-2016, passed away on February 13, 2021, in Istanbul.
UCLG-MEWA Secretary General Dr. Mehmet Duman and staff members paid their respects by visiting the tomb of the late President and laying flowers while reciting prayers. The commemoration continued at the UCLG-MEWA General Secretariat, where the President’s contributions to the organization and the global municipal movement were remembered.
Mohamed Saadie, UCLG-MEWA President for the 2019-2022 term and Deputy Ombudsman for the 2022-2025 term, participated virtually in the commemoration meeting and paid tribute to the late President. Saadie emphasized the crucial role of Kadir Topbaş in strengthening the local governments’ movement in the region and the legacy he left behind.
UCLG-MEWA will always honor and remember Arc. Dr. Kadir Topbaş for his invaluable contribution to the organization and the municipal movement.
