UCLG-MEWA Committee Meeting

We are delighted to inform you that the next meeting of UCLG-MEWA Committee on Culture will take place in Istanbul on 28 March 2017.

In a world which broadly accepts that development can only be “sustainable” if culture is given a central role, cultures forge dynamic and interactive relationships between people and their environments. The Middle East and West Asia (MEWA) region dispose a very rich and diverse cultural heritage which is largely under-valued when it comes to development policies.

UCLG-MEWA Committee on Culture, which was established in Konya in November 2013, is the regional platform of cities, organizations and networks to learn, to cooperate and to launch policies and programmes on the role of culture in sustainable local development. UCLG-MEWA Committee on Culture promotes the implementation of the Culture 21 the guiding document for public cultural policies of UCLG. Through a set of Actions adopted within the 1st UCLG Culture Summit in Bilbao (Spain) we promote knowledge, facilitate the exchange of good practices, and strengthen a global network of effective and innovative cities and local governments. On the period 2016-2019 UCLG-MEWA Committee on Culture will focus on Heritage Preservation, Sustainable Tourism and Cultural Diversity.

We would like to express that we would be honored to see you among us in the Meeting of UCLG-MEWA Committee on Culture that will take place on 28 March 2017.
