The second meeting of UCLG-MEWA Committee on Urban Mobility was held on 22-23th March 2016 in Amman, the capital city of Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, hosted by Amman Metropolitan Municipality.

During the two-day meetings, thematic meetings were organized along with the administrative affairs of the committee.

“Public Transportation Culture Should Be Popularized”

Mehmet Duman, UCLG-MEWA Secretary General, who made an opening speech at the meeting, touched upon the works that are carried out in the region on urban mobility. “Transportation solutions that will ease the lives of people living in the cities of MEWA Region are implemented successfully by some of our municipalities. Popularization of public transportation culture in our region is a necessity. If the public transportation culture cannot be popularized, this problem will not only affect the locals, but also it will result in an environmental pollution and a great harm to the world we live in,”  Mr. Duman stated.

The first session was held under the title of “How to achieve Sustainable Mobility in MEWA region and what are the challenges faced?”, the second session was “LRT & BRT: Planning, Implementation and Challenges”, and the last session was “Habitat III and Mobility”.
