UCLG-MEWA Executive Bureau and Council Joint Meeting and the first meeting of its Committee on Environment

We are pleased to inform you that United Cities and Local Governments Middle East and West Asia Section (UCLG-MEWA) will hold its Executive Bureau and Council Joint Meeting, as well as the first meeting of its Committee on Environment, and its Sustainable Cities Forum on 13-14 November 2015 in Malatya, Turkey.

This year UCLG-MEWA Executive Bureau and Council Joint Meeting will be of particular importance towards HABITAT III Conference and it will be an important milestone in defining the roadmap of our organization within the context of intense international debates. In order to draw the attention of our members on these developments that will be discussed in international arena, a short panel will be organized in which experts from partner organizations will be invited to present our common projects.

In line with our aim to raise awareness on the international development agenda among local authorities and within the context of the COP21, UCLG-MEWA Committee on Environment will hold its first meeting after the Executive Bureau. Together with our members and partners we will define an agenda for the environment up until 2016. Policies on environment, as well as program of activities and good practices of local authorities in the MEWA region will be discussed.

Following this meeting, we will give participants the opportunity to discuss more broadly their vision on sustainability. UCLG-MEWA Sustainable Cities Forum aims to improve exchanges between cities, to point out important developments in the international arena and to raise awareness and bring new approaches for discussion on environmental matters.

We will organize 4 sessions highlighting specific issues such as the role of cities in sustainable life, understanding of climate change in our region, urban agricultural lands, and sustainable waste management.

We would be pleased to receive your valuable contributions and presence during this event that will pave our way toward COP21. Looking forward to receiving your answer as soon as possible, before October 23, 2015.
