UCLG-MEWA Executive Bureau and Council Joint Meeting was held in Şanlıurfa, Turkey on 8 November 2016 under the auspices of Şanlıurfa Metropolitan Municipality, Co-President of UCLG-MEWA Committee on Social Inclusion.
Mehmet Duman, UCLG-MEWA Secretary General, who made the opening speech of Executive Bureau and Council Joint Meeting, also presented the report of activities.
Mr. Secretary General stated that they grouped the activities under 9 headings, which are; development of membership, strengthening relations with UCLG, strengthening relations with members, strengthening relations with UN and affiliated organizations, meetings of MEWA governing bodies, projects, trainings, capacity building activities and press-media and public relations activities.
Mr. Duman also stated that their works to increase the membership base are still going on and that their visits to embassies in Turkey of the countries in the region are continuing.
After the presentation of report of activities, Executive Bureau and Council Joint Meeting continued with the presentation of agenda items by Fatma Şahin, Mayor of Gaziantep and President of UCLG-MEWA.
UCLG-MEWA Financial Management Committee Report was presented by Adnan Köşker, Mayor of Gebze and UCLG-MEWA Treasurer, and UCLG-MEWA Ombudsman Report was presented by Hayri İnönü, Mayor of Şişli and UCLG-MEWA Ombudsman. Moreover the projects and activities for 2017 were presented in a brief summary by Dr. Leyla Şen, UCLG-MEWA General Coordinator.
The new membership fee system that will come into force in 2017 was presented and adopted unanimously in the two-hour long meeting.
