UCLG-MEWA Executive Bureau Meeting took place on 27 April 2018, in Balıkesir, Turkey, under the auspices of Karesi Municipality. Hosting many participants from the countries of MEWA region, the meeting became the kick-off point for UCLG-MEWA’s strategic plan for the 2018-2020 period.
Before the Executive Bureau Meeting, UCLG-MEWA Financial Management Committee gathered on 20 April 2018, under the auspices of Gebze Municipality, UCLG-MEWA Treasurer, to finalize the financial report of 2017, and to evaluate the financial report for the first quarter of 2018.
Joint Meeting of Executive Bureau and Council to be in Ankara, in September 2018
After the opening session, UCLG-MEWA Executive Bureau Meeting was held in line with the agenda specified.
Mehmet Duman, UCLG-MEWA Secretary General, made a brief presentation of the Report of Activities, on the activities and various other developments initiated by its committees and working groups, within the period 18 October 2017 – 31 March 2018. UCLG-MEWA Annual Program of Activities for 2018 and Draft UCLG-MEWA 2018-2020 Strategic Plan were presented by Salim Korkmaz, UCLG-MEWA General Coordinator. Presented draft plan was adopted unanimously, which set the institutional roadmap for the next two years.
Additionally, UCLG-MEWA Executive Bureau has been determined Ankara Metropolitan Municipality as host of the UCLG-MEWA Executive Bureau and Council Joint Meeting, to be held in September 2018.
45 New Members Welcomed to UCLG-MEWA Family
UCLG-MEWA Executive Bureau also reviewed new membership requests, during the meeting. Within this framework, the membership requests of 45 local governments in Jordan, Djibouti, Palestine, Lebanon, Syria and Turkey were approved. After the passivization of the membership of three local governments, the meeting was concluded with a review of the opinions and recommendations of the members of Executive Bureau.
Following the UCLG-MEWA Executive Bureau Meeting, III. Administrative Meeting of UCLG-MEWA Committee on Gender Equality was held.
