United Cities and Local Governments Middle East and West Asia Section (UCLG-MEWA) organized an online live event as part of its Local Government Talks with Iraj Shahin Baher, Mayor of Tabriz, on August 25, 2020.

Mayor Baher started his words by mentioning some of the actions taken by Tabriz Municipality in the fight against COVID-19 to protect the people Tabriz and the municipal staff and stated that in addition to all the measures taken and support given to the citizens, they reached out to and assisted 15,000 families in need during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mayor Baher underlined that the pandemic changed the way in which municipal services were provided and received by the citizens, and he added it was inevitable for institutions to change their administrative behaviors during this process.

Another topic discussed during the talk was the sister city relations. Highlighting their continued relations with sister cities, Mayor Baher stated that they had organized online meetings and exchanged experiences about COVID-19. He also talked about the historical, cultural, economic, social, and artistic characteristics of the city of Tabriz.
