UCLG-MEWA PARTICIPATED IN THE WORKSHOP ON BASELINE EMISSION INVENTORY METHODOLOGY


UCLG-MEWA participated in the “Workshop on Baseline Emission Inventory Methodology” that took place on 27-28 October 2021 within the framework of the EU4 Energy Transition Project: Covenant of Mayors in the Western Balkans and Turkey, a multi-donor project jointly co-financed by the European Union and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ)  that support the Global Covenant of Mayors (GCoM) signatory cities of the Western Balkans and Turkey in delivering on their pledges under the energy and climate targets.

The workshop, gathering participants from Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, Bağcılar Municipality, and observer municipalities, kicked off with the opening remarks of Ms. Daiva Matonienė, Project Team Leader in Turkey. Participating in the workshop as the GCoM focal point in Turkey, Ms. Bükre Türksoy, Coordinator of Relations with International Organizations at UCLG-MEWA, shared with the participants the recent developments on GCoM in Turkey as well as the reporting obligations for cities. Among the other speakers were Mr. Piero Remitti, Team leader at EU support to GCoM; Mr. Ali Korakan, International expert of energy efficiency; Ms. Ipek Gulkaya Taşgın, Long-term expert on energy and climate change policies; Mr. Mantas Marčiukaitis, International expert of RES; Ms. Katrin Keis, International GHG emission expert; Ms. Zeynep Pınar Öztürk; and Mr. Arif Künar, Local energy efficiency expert. During the event, the participants learned about Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plans (SECAPs) and target setting, the components and drafting process of a baseline emission inventory, and energy transition legislation of Turkey and the roles of Turkish municipalities.

The workshop concluded with the closing remarks of the Project Team Leader, summarizing the key takeaways of the event and explaining the steps forward.
