UCLG PRESIDENCY HELD ITS FIRST MEETING


Renewed with the UCLG Congress held in Daejeon city of South Korea in October, 2022, UCLG Presidency organized its first meeting online.

Moderated by Caroline Cosse, Mayor of Montevideo, who will appear as UCLG President for the term 2022-23, the meeting was attended by the Term Presidents who will assume the position after Cosse, Co-presidents, Vice Presidents with the representatives of UCLG and Regional Organizations.

In his speech, Uğur İbrahim Altay, Mayor of Konya Metropolitan Municipality, who will assume UCLG Presidency for the term 2023-2024, touched on the advantages of UCLG’s new Presidency system with an emphasis on democratic and participatory governance. Yücel Yılmaz, UCLG Vice President and Ambassador for the Pact for the Future of Government, also mentioned about the importance of the “Pact for the Future.” The meeting was also attended by Mehmet Duman, UCLG-MEWA Secretary General.

From decentralized cooperation to the representation of local governments before United Nations, gender equality to democratic governance, UCLG Presidency Meeting offered several priorities from different areas.

During the meeting, also the program and the details of UCLG Annual Retreat, which will be held in Barcelona between February 20 and 24, were discussed by the participants.
