From 9 to 10 September, the Secretariat of the UCLG World Organization and the UCLG Sections gathered in Barcelona, Spain to discuss the preparations for the UCLG Congress and to review the 5th Report issued by the Global Observatory of Local Democracy and Decentralization (GOLD) on the theme of “Localizing the SDGs”.
On the first day of the event, which started with the opening speeches of Emilia Saiz, UCLG Secretary General, and the representatives of Barcelona, the host Municipality, the experts involved in the preparation of the GOLD V Report shared the general outputs of the document with reference to each Section. In the UCLG Secretariats Working Session held on the second day of the meeting, participants discussed the activities of the Sections in relation to the Congress. Within this context, the methodology of the Assembly Track, one of the sessions of the Congress where each Section will take an active role, and the expected results were addressed.
The event, which also hosted a series of discussions on the 2020 Work Plan of the Organization, ended with an Evaluation Session. As known, the UCLG Congress will be held in Durban, South Africa, from 11 to 15 November, and the UCLG Presidency will be renewed for the new term.
