UCLG Forum on I-Cities aims to bring together all intermediary cities on the globe with meetings to be held in every two years. Standing out with their ideal human scale and connectivity between rural areas and metropolises; and hosting a population growing every passing day; i-cities are encouraged to create their own agendas in line with their specific needs and different perspectives. In addition, with this Forum on I-Cities, which functions as an advisory and policy development center, these cities now emerge as the ideal places for the implementation of the global agendas, especially the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the New Urban Agenda.
UCLG Forum on Intermediary Cities, which is presided by Chefchaouen Municipality from Morocco, has carried out a series of programs in the past years, for different regions. For the Middle East and West Asia region, the regional forum was organized in September 2017, in Nevşehir, the pilot i-city of the region. Forum is currently working to develop a global agenda and roadmap for i-cities, bringing together the outputs of regional forums.
For this purpose, UCLG World Forum on Intermediary Cities will take place on 5-7 July 2018, in Chefchaouen, Morocco, where participants will discuss many thematic areas such as global environmental agendas, citizens’ participation, local development strategies, providing a fair regional order, and prosperity culture in i-cities.
With approximately 250 participants, national and local government representatives will come together to shape the urban agenda for i-cities. For more information, please visit https://intermediarycities.uclg.org/en
