UCLG-MEWA visited Mansur Yavaş, Mayor of Ankara (Turkey), who was elected as the Ombudsman of the Organization for the 2019-2022 Term. Following the information about the Organization provided by Mehmet Duman, UCLG-MEWA Secretary General, assessments were made on upcoming activities of the new period.

At the UCLG-MEWA Congress, organized under the auspices of Greater Amman Municipality on July 9-10, 2019, the Presidency of the governing bodies and committees of the Organization were determined. As a result of the decision, Ankara Metropolitan Municipality was elected as the Ombudsman for the new period. The Ombudsman, which defines the role of mediation between local governments or persons affected by the work and operations of the governing bodies of the Organization, will also be the subject of disseminating activities in the MEWA Region in the new period.

In line with the decision taken at the Congress, Ankara Metropolitan Municipality will also serve as the Co-President of the Organization’s Committee on City Diplomacy and Local Governance and Committee on Gender Equality.
