World Summit on Climate and Territories, as a preparation event for United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCC) 21st Conference of the Parties (COP 21) which will be held in December 2015 in Paris, France, will take place in 1-2 July 2015 in Lyon, France.
COP 21 is of vital importance, thanks to its role of creating a universal and legally binding climate regime in the debates concerning combating climate change in the international arena. Additionally, considering the fact that greenhouse gases that lead to the climate change, are mostly caused by cities, you, as local governments have the duty of being major players in adaptation to and combating against the climate changes.
Rhônes-Alpes territory of France that is among the UCLG World Organization members, is aware of this important fact, and has taken on the task of raising awareness through its call to local government networks and also the task of making these networks’ active role more visible during COP 21. In this event, of which UCLG is one of the organizers; and which is supported by many local and regional governments, sessions and thematic workshops under 10 subjects(forests, mobility and transportation, education and raising awareness, energy generation, distribution and consumption, low carbon economy and jobs, agriculture, decentralized cooperation and territorial partnerships, financing, adaptation, regional planning) will be organized.
