Following the UCLG-MEWA Congress held in October 2025, the Presidency of the UCLG-MEWA Committee on Environment has been newly elected. To ensure a coordinated and effective start to this new term, the UCLG-MEWA Committee on Environment Presidency and Committee Meeting will be held on 27 March 2026, from 09:00 to 16:15 (GMT+3), in collaboration with the Committee Presidency, Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality.
The meeting will initiate a participatory process to define the objectives and priorities of the Committee for the upcoming three-year period. It will also provide a platform for dialogue between the newly elected Presidency and the Committee members.
The programme will consist of two complementary sessions:
The first session will focus on the Presidency and Committee Meeting, including discussions on strategic priorities and the roadmap for the new term.
The second session will host the first meeting of the Working Group on Disaster Risk Reduction (WGDRR). This session will address local preparedness, environmental risks, and strengthening resilience at the local level. Thematic contributions from a broad range of experts, together with representatives from national and international institutions, academia, the private sector, and local governments, will contribute to the meeting.
Simultaneous interpretation in Arabic, English, and Turkish will be provided throughout the meeting.
