Organized by Human Development Foundation (INGEV), Act*Human Human Development Summit took place in Swissotel Istanbul, on January 25th, 2017. Nearly 600 participants including Mehmet Duman, UCLG-MEWA Secretary General and representatives of different fields in the private & public sector and civil society attended the Summit.
The Human Development Ranking of the Districts in Turkey
Conducted by INDEV to assess the human development level of the districts within Turkey, the results of Human Development Index – Districts (IGE-I) Research were also announced during the Summit. Consisting of the most populated 150 districts within the provincial borders of 30 big cities in Turkey, the researched districts were ranked by their index scores that were calculated using 50 indicators under certain titles such as governance, social inclusion, financial capacity, education, health, social life, environment and transportation.
According the results of the research, 18 out of 150 districts were shortlisted as districts with a very high level of human development: Çankaya, Kadıköy, Beşiktaş, Muratpaşa, Odunpazarı, Nilüfer, Yenimahalle, İzmit, Beyoğlu, Bakırköy, Şişli, Tepebaşı, Keçiören, Fatih, Ataşehir, Osmangazi, Üsküdar and Konyaaltı. On behalf of the municipal administrations, mayors and vice-mayors of the districts were awarded in a ceremony during the Summit.
