CANACANKATAN: SMART MUNICIPALITY COMES INTO PROMINENCE DURING THE PANDEMIC


United Cities and Local Governments Middle East and West Asia Section (UCLG-MEWA) hosted Atty. Emin Canacankatan, Executive Bureau Member of the World Academy for Local Government and Democracy (WALD) and Supervisory Board & Financial Management Committee Member of the UCLG-MEWA, as part of UCLG-MEWA Local Government Talk entitled “Waqf Management in the Fight Against Coronavirus and Normalization” on September 10, 2020.

Starting his remarks by talking about the waqf culture and evolution of the WALD from past to present, Mr. Canacankatan spoke about the activities of the World Academy for Local Government and Democracy during the pandemic. Stressing the effects of the pandemic on local governments, Canacankatan said that “Smart Municipality” came into prominence during the pandemic and the services provided by the municipalities would inevitably be carried out through the “e-Municipality” system after the improvement of technological infrastructures.

Another topic discussed during the talk was the effects of the pandemic on judicial works and activities being carried out related to mediation.
