Held in Başiskele district of Kocaeli, between November 11-13, 2024, the workshop addressed the recent updates made on the City Council Regulations.
Titled “Workshop on Regulations of the City Councils of Türkiye,” the program was hosted by Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality, and also contributed by SURA Urban Policies and Research Center. Organized under the leadership of the Union of City Councils of Türkiye, the workshop targeted updating the legislation on city councils and making them more effective.
The event attracted great interest by the members of the Union of City Councils of Türkiye, the stakeholders and experts from academia. Representing UCLG-MEWA, a delegation consisting of Secretary General Dr. Mehmet Duman, Bayram Doğan Gülnergiz, Administrative and Financial Affairs Coordinator, Junaid Rafiq, Research Officer and Ömer Faruk Coşkun, Project Assistant, attended the workshop.
In his opening speech, UCLG-MEWA Secretary General Dr. Mehmet Duman drew attention to the cruciality of local governments and city councils, and stated that such workshops are of great value in terms of developing a shared vision.
The results of this workshop are expected to stand as a prominent source for the update of the legislation of city councils and for the solution of problems faced in the practice.
