United Cities and Local Governments the Middle East and West Asia Section (UCLG-MEWA) hosted Ambassador Dato’ Ku Jaafar Ku Shaari, Secretay General of D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation (D-8), in a session titled “The Economic and Local Impacts of Covid-19 Pandemic on D-8 Countries” on November 25, 2020, as part of UCLG-MEWA Local Government Talk Series.
Started his speech by mentioning the impacts of the COVID-19 outbreak in the world, Secretary General Shaari evaluated the situation of D-8 countries during the fight against the COVID-19 and informed about their current situations. The effect of the pandemic on local and national economies in D-8 countries was the another topic D-8 Secretary General addressed. He also highlighted some of the activities that D-8 had carried out during the pandemic and mentioned the D-8 Health and Social Protection Programme, and single card payment system planned to use in 8 countries.
At the end of the talk, he underlined the Memorandum of Understanding signed between UCLG-MEWA and D-8, expressed his welcome on the developing bilateral relations between both parties in the meantime.
