A group of students from Marmara University’s Local Government Department, led by Dr. Kemal Kaya, visited UCLG-MEWA’s General Secretariat on January 3, 2025. The visit aimed to provide students with hands-on experience in the field of local governance while fostering institutional collaboration.
Fatih Gökyıldız, UCLG-MEWA’s Research, Development, and Projects Coordinator, delivered the institutional presentation on UCLG-MEWA, covering topics such as the structure of UCLG, the committees within UCLG-MEWA, its role among international organizations, and the historical evolution of the International Municipal Movement.
The students had the valuable opportunity to engage with UCLG-MEWA Secretary General Dr. Mehmet Duman. Drawing from his extensive experience in local governance and international cooperation, Dr. Duman provided insightful perspectives and guidance. He also outlined a strategic roadmap for students, offering in-depth evaluations of career prospects and volunteer opportunities within the sector.
The program also introduced students to UCLG and UCLG-MEWA’s mission, operations, and areas of activity while offering key insights into the structure of local governments in Türkiye, the Middle East and West Asia, as well as their engagement in international networks.
With 18 students in attendance, the visit was regarded as an academically and professionally enriching experience. The event concluded with a group photo session.
