Cities’ role in development and migration policies will be discussed through an e-discussion held on the Community of Practice M4D Net in order to contribute to the Final Outcome Document of the Second Mayoral Forum on Mobility, Migration and Development,
The Second Mayoral Forum on Mobility, Migration and Development, co-organized by the Joint Migration and Development Initiative (JMDI), the World Bank/KNOMAD and UNITAR and taking place on 12-13 November 2015 in the City of Quito is an annual global gathering of Mayors and senior city administrators and other local and regional authorities, with the international community of inter-governmental experts, academics, donors and NGOs. Its main purposes are to strategize and propose new and innovative approaches to urban governance in contexts of greater diversity, and to support cities’ implementation of migration policies for inclusive growth.
The purpose of this e-discussion is therefore to gather the knowledge and expertise of cities and local authorities’ worldwide to feed into the Outcome Document of the Second Mayoral Forum on Mobility, Migration and Development. The City of Quito, JMDI, the World Bank/KNOMAD and UNITAR invite all local actors involved to read the background note and respond to the questions available here. A draft version of the Outcome Document (in English, French and Spanish) is available here. Responses are expected to be submitted by Wednesday, 4th November.
The M4D Net consists on a virtual Community of Practitioners with more than 3,000 members working on or interested in the links between migration and development. The M4D Net is a key tool for the JMDI to interact with migration and development practitioners, engage them in debates, learn from their experiences and feed their knowledge and experiences into policy-making.
