UCLG-MEWA-Led UN SDGs Index Training Held in Karatay

Organized by UCLG-MEWA and hosted by Karatay Municipality, the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Index Training, a significant capacity-building activity for local governments regarding the calendar and evaluation of the sustainable development process, is being held on January 8, 2026.

Technical staff from Karatay, Meram, and Selçuklu Municipalities participated in the training software. The training, delivered by UCLG-MEWA Deputy Secretary General Ali Murat Duman, covered in detail the importance of the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals for local governments, the SDG Index algorithm, and evaluation criteria.

Officials underlined that the training relies on data from municipalities’ annual activity reports, enabling each municipality to track its own progress independently, without direct comparison to others.

It was further announced that municipalities successfully supporting the process will be awarded certificates of achievement, to be presented during the upcoming UCLG-MEWA Bureau Meeting in Niğde on April 20–21, 2026.

Speaking at the event, Ali Murat stated that local governments have a truly critical role in sustainable development in countries and expressed his satisfaction with the cooperation with Karatay Municipality.
