UCLG-MEWA pays Official Visit to Doha Municipality to Strengthen Regional Collaboration


A high-level delegation comprising UCLG Executive President and Mayor of Konya, Uğur İbrahim Altay; UCLG-MEWA Co-President and Mayor of Trabzon, Ahmet Metin Genç; and UCLG-MEWA Secretary General, Dr. Mehmet Duman, paid an official visit to the Director General of Doha Municipality, Eng. Mohammed Al-Naimi on April 24. 

The visit aimed to enhance cooperation and dialogue between UCLG-MEWA and Doha Municipality. During the meeting, the delegation presented an overview of UCLG-MEWA’s mission, activities, and long-term vision, emphasizing the importance of inclusive and sustainable urban development across the Middle East and West Asia (MEWA) region.

The dignitaries formally invited Doha Municipality and other municipalities in Qatar to take on a more active role within the UCLG-MEWA network and contribute meaningfully to collective efforts to build resilient, sustainable, and future-ready cities across the region.

Mehmet Mustafa Göksu, Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye to Qatar, also attended the meeting, underscoring the diplomatic support for stronger ties between local governments in the region.

This visit marked a significant step toward expanding UCLG-MEWA’s partnerships with municipalities in the Gulf, reinforcing the shared vision of regional collaboration for sustainable development.
