On May 30, 2024, UCLG-MEWA hosted high-level figures from SAMPAŞ Holding and SAMPAŞ eKD (e-urban transformation) at its headquarters in Sultanahmet, Istanbul. Ateş Gönen, SAMPAŞ Executive Committee Member and Serdar Sedaroğlu, Deputy Director General at SAMPAŞ eKD, paid a visit to the organization to get information about the activities of UCLG-MEWA, and to negotiate on potential collaborations.
Gönen and Sedaroğlu were briefly informed about the organization’s activity-flow and agenda both on global and local scale. The main focus of the visit was potential areas of collaboration with local governments on issues such as smart cities and digitalization. During the visit, the parties negotiated on the potential of the future projects and common fields to work on.
The upcoming event, Smart & Resilient Cities Summit, which will be organized by SAMPAŞ, was among the prominent items of the visit’s agenda. Extending an official invitation to UCLG-MEWA for this outstanding event, with this summit, SAMPAŞ aims to bring together expert figures on smart city technologies and urban transformation, and support sustainability and innovation among local governments.
Both parties agreed on taking concrete steps for future collaborations and common projects. This meeting once again demonstrated the importance of cross-sectoral cooperation and joining efforts on the way of finding solutions to the challenges faced by local governments.
