Dear Members,
The United Nations will celebrate the 61st Session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) from 13 to 24 March 2016 in New York.
CSW is the principal UN global policy-making body dedicated exclusively to gender equality and advancement of women. This year’s priority theme will be: “Women’s economic empowerment in the changing world of work”; sessions will also be devoted to considering: “Challenges and achievements in the implementation of the Millennium Development Goals for women and girls”.
UCLG AT THE CSW
The UCLG Standing Committee on Gender Equality will mobilize a limited delegation of women elected leaders to attend the debates during the first week of the meetings and bring their views to Member States and the UN representatives.
At that occasion a Special High Level Session will be organized in collaboration with UN Women, in the framework of the partnership between our organizations since 2013.
A draft statement to the CSW is being developed and enclosed for your comments and inputs. Please do not hesitate to share your inputs with us by the third week of January.

There is limited access to the CSW sessions. UCLG has possibilities to register up to 15 delegates. Should you be interested in participating, please fill in the attached form and send back to the Secretariat at women@uclg.org, before 16 January 2017. Members will be registered on first come first served basis. If you are planning to attend the CSW in New York with your national delegation, we would be grateful to receive information on the period that you are planning to attend.
