United Nations Youth Townhall in Heidelberg-Germany

We are pleased to share with you the opportunity to apply to the United Nations Youth Townhall, convened by the United Nations Youth Office, which will take place from 8 to 10 December 2026 in Heidelberg-Germany, bringing together over 1,000 participants, including young people, national, local and regional governments, organizations from the United Nations system, civil society and other stakeholders. The Townhall aims to strengthen participation and diversity by ensuring youth and local communities contribute directly to international decision-making spaces. By transforming dialogue into concrete commitments, the event seeks to accelerate progress on global youth priorities and foster stronger collaboration across the international youth agenda.

In this context, this gathering holds strategic significance, as the UCLG World Secretariat will use the occasion to officially launch the Intergenerational Council on Future Generations. Mandated by the UCLG World Council during the Tangier Congress and World Summit of Local and Regional Leaders, this Council serves as a key mechanism for implementing the Tangier Outcome Document and embedding long-term governance across our municipal networks.

This Council is designed to bring intergenerational perspectives into the positions, identifying what the public services and everyday essentials of the future should look like over the coming decades, through addressing issues ranging from jobs and social protection to climate change, energy, food, education and digital connectivity, connecting with the UN Six Transitions and the body of knowledge developed through the Cities Countdown to 2030.

Therefore, we encourage interested municipalities who meet the participation criteria to confirm their attendance via this form by 25 October 2026, and by contacting partnerships@uclg.org. For coordination purposes, we kindly ask our members to inform UCLG-MEWA at ir@uclg-mewa.org after completing the form.

Should you have any questions, or need further facilitation to attend the town hall, please don’t hesitate to contact us. We look forward to receiving your expressions of interest and to facilitating this valuable opportunity for our members.

Note: UCLG-MEWA is not the organizer of the event described herein and is not responsible for logistics and accommodation or any other arrangements . This circular is disseminated by UCLG-MEWA for information of members only.
