Kourosh Moghtaderi, cultural attaché at the Consulate General of the Islamic Republic of Iran, visited UCLG-MEWA General Secretariat, on 26 April 2019. Coming together with Mehmet Duman, UCLG-MEWA Secretary General, Cultural attaché Moghtaderi, was firstly informed about the history and structure of the Organization.
During the meeting, the relations between UCLG-MEWA and local governments in Iran were also discussed. In this regard, parties also discussed the second meeting of UCLG-MEWA Committee on Culture, which was held in 2015 in partnership with UCLG-MEWA, Tehran Municipality and Asian Mayors Forum (AMF) and organized under he theme ‘Colors are Our Common Culture’. It was underscored that such meetings provide important platforms to emphasize that the differences in the region are richness, and the culture plays a unifying role in this regard. In addition to this, the activities and platforms where local governments in Iran may participate in to closely follow-up the global agendas more closely were discussed through the calendar of UCLG-MEWA.
Another highlight of the meeting was the cultural projects of Iran and local governments in Iran. Cultural attaché Moghtaderi stated that they will carry out a cultural activity together with Iranian women artists in the near future and emphasized the significance of the partnership with UCLG-MEWA. The possible contributions of the project to be jointly organized with Iranian and Turkish women artists in Istanbul and Tehran was one of the prominent topics of the meeting. Cultural attaché Kourosh Moghtaderi, emphasized that they value the artists who produce their own business and carry the culture, and he also added that they want to take part in similar projects with UCLG-MEWA.
The contact was concluded following the consensus on to jointly organize a program on sustainable culture under the UCLG-MEWA Committee on Culture and continuation of close cooperation between institutions.
