United Cities and Local Governments the Middle East and West Asia Section (UCLG-MEWA) continues to be in close cooperation with the diplomatic missions to develop relationships between the local governments in the Middle East and West Asia Region.
Within this context, UCLG-MEWA Secretary General Mehmet Duman and his delegation paid a visit to Mr. Bakhtiar Assadzadeh, Consul General of the Islamic Republic of Iran, in his office at the Consulate General in Istanbul on 16 October 2019.
During his visit, Secretary General Duman briefed the Consul General on the details related to the Presidency Meetings of UCLG-MEWA and UCLG-MEWA Committee on Smart Cities and Urban Mobility which will be held in Tehran, Iran. In addition to that, Secretary General Duman briefly informed the Consul General Assadzadeh about UCLG-MEWA, its administrative structure, committees and goals.
The need for the active involvement of Iranian Municipalities in UCLG-MEWA’s activities to make their voices heard on the international arena was also emphasized during the meeting.
The visit ended with Secretary General Duman informing the Consul General about the recent activities of UCLG-MEWA and presenting him the publications issued by UCLG-MEWA.
