VISITS OF UCLG AND UCLG-MEWA IN KUTAHYA

Emilia Saiz, Secretary General of United Cities and Local Governments World Organization (UCLG); Mohamed Saadieh, President of UCLG-MEWA; Mehmet Duman, Secretary General of UCLG-MEWA, and the accompanying delegation paid a working visit to Alim Işık, Mayor of Kütahya, the city which hosted the 2nd World Forum of Intermediary Cities on 7 October 2021.

During the meeting where the parties mentioned the importance of organizing the forum in the city of Kütahya, the Sister City Protocol signed in 2012 by Kütahya Municipality and Union of Dannieh Municipalities was extended.

It was emphasized that the updated protocol would serve to strengthen the mutual cooperation.

The second visit of the delegation was made to the Office of Governor of Kütahya.

Muhammed Saadie, UCLG-MEWA President; Mehmet Duman, UCLG-MEWA Secretary General, and the accompanying delegation paid a visit to Ali Çelik, Governor of Kütahya, in his office. During the meeting where the 2nd World Forum of Intermediary Cities and the activities of the Organization were discussed, Muhammed Saadie thanked the Governor Çelik for their reception.

Governor Çelik said, “Our duty is to increase friendship, love and mutual solidarity. We are glad that these visits are part of this,” and emphasized that Kütahya, with its proximity to metropolitan cities, fully represents what it means to be an intermediary city. At the end of the meeting, the publications of the organization were presented to the Governor Çelik.

Finally, the UCLG-MEWA delegation completed the series of visits by visiting Mehmet Gürsoy, award-winning craftsman in the art of tiles who was awarded the UNESCO Living Human Treasure Prize, and İsmail Yiğit in their workshops.
