MARUF23 HOSTED THE 11TH LIVABLE CITIES SYMPOSIUM


Hosted by MARUF23 and held at Istanbul Congress Center on October 6, the Livable Cities Symposium was organized for the 11th time by WRI. UCLG-MEWA took part in the symposium as one of the stakeholders of KAVSAK Network Project. Sustainable Urban Transport was approached with its environmental, social and financial dimensions throughout the symposium.

WRI Türkiye 11th Livable Cities Symposium, the first event held under the theme “Kavsak Network International Event,” started with the session “KAVSAK Network Presentations.” At the session, the stakeholders of KAVSAK Network -WRI Türkiye, Union of International Association of Public Transport (UITP), Active Living Association and YADA- mentioned their activities and contributions to the project.

Communication and Information Technologies Coordinator Sedrettin Konuk represented UCLG-MEWA, which is one of the stakeholders and members of Kavsak Network Executive Committee. Konuk informed the audience about UCLG-MEWA and made a presentation on the activities carried out within the scope of the project. Ensuring communication between UCLG and the project team, preparation and presentation of the 5th KAVSAK E-Learning Module, the coordination of the site visit in Barcelona and the 37th edition of MEWA Agora Magazine that covered KAVSAK Network Project under the theme “Sustainable Urban Transport” were the times mentioned at the session.

Presentation session was followed by the sessions “KAVSAK Network Social Impact and Sustainability Strategy Initiatives” and “Sustainable Urban Transport Plans (SUMPS).” The sessions, through which Sustainable Development Goals and the concepts of urban mobility are approached, also offered discussions on localization climate crisis and transportation.

The last session, which is “On Best Practices in Sustainable Cities,” focused on comparative approaches on public transportation in the post COVID-19 period, electric buses and digitalization in addition to the examples of best practices from Europe and Türkiye.
